Calm and Productive

As someone who is obsessed with the national debt, I have strong feelings about the progressive movement. Once when speaking with some conservative christian Trump supporters I referred to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a “Mall Tart.” The kind of woman whose family is wracked by credit card debt and yet continues to shop for sparkly shoes. This was said with sneer and sarcasm. The christian woman wondered thoughtfully if maybe the congresswoman was just young, with few life experiences. Maybe that’s the source of her reckless behavior. It later occurred to me just how ugly and unhelpful my comment was. My christian friend calmly pointing out that the congresswoman was just immature provided a foundation for a thoughtful and productive conversation. As we move forward we need to be calm and thoughtful so that we can be more productive.
